How Does Sublimation Printing Work?

2. The Design Is Positioned

The printed transfer is carefully placed against the product. It must be correctly aligned so the final design appears exactly where it should.

3. Heat and Pressure Are Applied

The item is placed inside a professional heat press.

Depending on the product, the press applies temperatures of around 180–200°C for a carefully controlled amount of time.

When heated, the solid dye changes directly into a gas. The heat also opens the fibres or coating of the product, allowing the dye to enter the surface.

4. The Design Becomes Permanent

As the product cools, the dye returns to a solid state and becomes locked into the material.

The finished print is smooth, permanent and resistant to everyday wear.
